Here’s a news release sent to us about the Kimberlee’s Bike for Kids Foundation.
Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids Launched;
150 Underprivileged Kids to Get Free Bikes on June 6th
San Diego, Calif.
There will be a lot of smiling faces at the National City Boys & Girls Club (in San Diego County) on June 6th. That’s when Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids will be distributing 150 bikes, helmets and locks to needy children in the non-profit foundation’s first bicycle give-away.
“It’s going to be so much fun watching 150 children get free bicycles,” says Dan Gindling, president of Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids, a 501 (c) (3) foundation. “For many of the kids it will be the first bike they can call their own. I think Kimberlee would be very proud of what we are doing in her name.”
Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids was created to honor Kimberlee Caledonia, an avid cyclist who died of brain cancer in 2008. Kimberlee loved to ride bicycles and she loved to teach, so paring bicycles with children into a non-profit foundation that bears her name is a perfect combination.
In addition to the bikes, helmets and locks, the children will receive:
– Safety and riding instruction from the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.
– Tips on fixing a flat from Randy Clark, a well-known San Diego cycling coach.
– Free basic service for six months courtesy of numerous San Diego County independent bike dealers including the Bicycle Warehouse chain and South Bay Bicycles.
– Free Tour de France cycling caps courtesy of Pace Sportswear.
– Loads of Door Prizes.
Says Theresa Davis, Area Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego: “Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids has been a Godsend to the kids of the National City community. In these tough economic times, many children from the National City School District do not have the means to purchase a new bike, now they will not only get a free bicycle but a helmet and lock as well.”
Preceding the bicycle give-away, on Friday, June 5th from 6 to 10 p.m. Kimberlee’s Bikes for Kids will be hosting a bicycle assembly party. The event is open to pre-assigned volunteers and media only.
