Earlier this week Dan Atherton was out riding some local dirt jumps in his local town of Llanfyllin, and subsequently lost control, crashed, and landed on his head. Dan was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where a preliminary X-ray revealed a fracture to his C2 vertebrae, with a fracture to his C1 vertebrae being found later using a CT scan.
Fortunately, Dan is not paralyzed and reportedly has full movement of his body. He will remain immobilized as a precaution, until he is able to see a specialist to repair the damage. He is to be transferred to another hospital that is known as one of the best in the country for treatment of spinal injuries.
