As is always the case, we had a great time talking with Ellen and Bill from American Classic at Interbike this year- the company from Florida is always truly excited about their new products and are always trying to push their wheels forward. In addition to the new road tubeless wheels and lighter-still mountain wheels that Tyler covered at Eurobike, AC were showing off a redesigned Terrain mid-range wheelset as well as what may be the world’s biggest wheel bag. Read on for the details…
The Terrain wheelset uses its own 26mm wide extrusion with a tubeless inner profile copied from their successful MTB Tubeless wheelset, with a bit more wall thickness and less-expensive hubs. 26in versions come in at 1,782g, while 29ers will be 1,895g- and either should be a welcome OEM sight or a nice upgrade at $470.
In addition, American Classic were displaying a wheel bag that will swallow two 29er wheels, with tires, without putting up a fight. It’s a big bag, but is exactly what a number of their customers is looking for:
Has anyone else opened an American Classic box recently to see a picture of their Formula rotors with a line through it? The $20/pair reinforcing plate below is designed to allow the use of lightweight rotors with American Classic hubs. What the company found is that rotors with independent arms were individually loading their downhillers’ rotor bolts and causing some of the bolts to pull out. The reinforcing ring helps the rotor act as a single piece and will be include with all 2012 disc wheels.
