As the pedal that ushered in a new era for clipless on the road, Look has been trying to gain a foothold in mountain biking recently as well. The idea is pretty simple – offer a single style of pedal and then sell replaceable cages to change the amount of platform. Look started with their polyamide nylon cage for the S-Track and then introduced the cold forged alloy cage at Frostbike early last year.

Their latest cage is based on Christoph Sauser’s personal preferences, hence the name. The Sauser cage gives the S-Track a good amount more surface area on either side of the cleat, but still keeps the overall weight of the pedal quite low. Details plus actual weights after the jump…

Unlike the Alloy or the Polyamide cage, the Sauser cage only provides additional platform on the sides of the pedal. In addition to making the pedal a bit easier to stand on when not clipped in, it should provide more lateral support under your shoe as well. At only 24g per cage, the weight penalty is pretty minimal. Sauser cages will be sold for $59.99 for the cages alone.

They will be available later this fall along with the cold forged alloy cage which will sell for $89.99. The alloy cage actually has a slightly thinner profile front and rear compared to the polyamide Enduro cage. The result is still a 60g alloy cage verses the 49g polyamide cage.

All of the cages will mount to any Look S-Track pedal including the standard, Race, and Carbon Ti. The pedals start with the standard S-Track which weighs in at 143g.

This is pretty d*mn awesome, being able to try different pedal platform types without having to commit and then being able to just swap the cage for different terrains.

Nicely done Look.
