What has two pedals and can reach speeds over 200 MPH? That would be the bicycle designed by Arnold Neracher that was piloted to near warp speed by François Gissy this past Friday at the Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet in South of France. The term bicycle may be a bit of a stretch, but it can be propelled using human power alone. It just also happens to have a rocket built into the frame that set a new world record after racing a 1/4 mile in under 7 seconds and topping out at 333 km/h or 207 mph.

Catch the insanity after the jump…

On November 7th of 2014, on the famous Circuit Paul Ricard located at Le Castellet in South of France, François Gissy has reached an incredible speed of 333 km/h on the rocket-propelled bicycle designed by his friend Arnold Neracher. More than 300 km/h on a skinny and completely stripped bicycle, this is amazing, and crazy! Who thought that one day a daredevil on a bicycle, with a rocket under the saddle, could travel the quarter mile in less than 7 seconds?

Data of the fastest run set on 7 November 2014:
Peak speed: 333 km/h (207 mph) attained after around 250 meters

Design: Arnold Neracher
Rider: François Gissy

Many thanks to the Circuit Paul Ricard

Is that Biker Fox???

What tires are they using that can handle those speeds?

Saw this guy on the MUP, dialed it up to 400W and gave him “the look” as I went by.

pretty cool. “bicycle” is a bit of a stretch. might as well strap it to a turtle

This is bogus

With 11X32 gearing and 24″ wheels, to go 207mph would require an 1082 cadence. This is obviously impossible with flat pedals…

Clipless however is another matter 🙂

So if I have one of those old-timey motorcycles with pedals, it’s a bicycle?

Uh, a rocket is a motor, therefore this is a motorcycle. A motorcycle with wierd pegs, but still a motorcycle.

Now that’s what I call a crotch rocket!

I think the Ferrari mention is meaningless to add to the hype. There’s nothing impressive about a decently-sized rocket beating a car – it’s expected. There’s also really no point in adding a pedaling system because we all know this is so far from being a bicycle in regards to its intended performance. He wasn’t even resting on the pedals during the run until the rocket cut out.

But in all fairness, it’s a really nice execution in design. Likely would’ve been faster with a cowl and aero wheels (assuming it’d still be stable), but the bare look has a lot of charm imo.

Shimano brakes and IceTech rotors FTW

He has to be using a steering damper like ones found on motorcycles. A shimmy at that speed will throw you over for sure.

OK. I believe everything that’s on the Internet!

(deleted). He wimped out at 250 meters. What is the machine capable of with a fearless Evil Knevil. No, I’m not volunteering. Who can trust those obviously light weight bicycle components even with no traction problem. The welds don’t look so great.
