@Jim, Wal-Mart has had 20″ fat bikes for a while now. Mongoose has had one for some time. The big guys are just now getting on board.

I would like to see the 20″ have 3″ tires. A kid that small doesn’t really need 4″ and might benefit more from less weight. I get that nothing about this bike is about need. These are very interesting.

Oderus what are you talking about the “big guys” are just getting on board? Because Wally World isn’t a big guy right? Pff. And they’ve only had 20″ for not even a year, not really “some time”. On-One came out with them first, but who friggin cares?

Gotta have it. I’m in the process of ordering my first fat bike for me and it appears our 5 year old now how his christmas gift.

If I never heard the phrase “jumping the shark” again, it would be a pleasure.
Please get over dismissing every development in this industry that doesn’t fit your self-imposed parameters.

@Tom, so explain how Specialized is more of a marketing company than a bike company.

specialized has designers and engineers and a test lab. they are a more complete bike company than a lot of others. the thing is, Specialized’s marketing department is very strong and, most of the time, very, very good. that makes it easy to dismiss everything else they do well.
some people also believe cervelo is all marketing, even though not-too-long ago they barely even had a marketing department. wouldnt surprise me if it’s just one guy.
people will believe what they want to believe.

I just put money down on one here in the States for mid-December delivery. Limited colors and quantities for December, the rest of the colors available in January, but probably still not enough stock available until February. I got all this info about 4th hand. The only thing I know for sure is they took my money and sent me a receipt and said I should have a 24′ fat bike sometime next month.

The coolest bike you can actually ride up and down hills would be the new Trailcraft 24″ with 1280 gram wheels https://bikerumor.com/?s=trailcraft+ shown a couple of days ago. If you ride on the beach or flat terrain, these kids fat bikes would indeed be cool.

This actually makes sense for a couple reasons:

1) wider tires make balance a little easier for groms to balance.

2) fat bikes have a more natural squish. Full suspension 20″ and 24″ bikes are rare and twice as much money. This is a good compromise for parents looking to get their kids out on dirt or any bump surface

3) if you are trying to get your kid stoked on riding you want them to have every advantage possible when learning. I’m talking about traction here. Would you rather have your kid make his first corner and be stoked for the next one or eat it and decide he hates this.

I think these are a great idea for any kid (and their parents) really excited about riding further than pavement goes. You can call it marketing, but I think it shows real commitment from the brand to introduce more than paper routes or trips to corner stores to kids.

You’re right James. Kids bikes usually lack gears. They should go for 10 speed 40-10 cassette probably. With this kind of money it shouldn’t be a problem.
