TRP centerlock rotor

Eagle eyed readers may have noticed an interesting looking rotor when Reynolds recently introduced their new ATR wheel line. As it turns out, the shapely new rotor belongs to TRP who plans to show it off at the upcoming NAHBS. Obviously a two piece Centerlock design, the rotor will be available in 140, 160, 180, and 203mm sizes. The smaller two will retail for $49.99 while the 180 and 203mm versions will sell for $51.99. What’s going on with the black sections on the braking surface? Is the rotor multiple materials?

@Derek Seems to be a section of thinner material, but I don’t know what the benefit should be. Possibly a wear indicator. If the black bits turn shiny, buy new rotor? Not that rotor wear is a major problem…

Maybe the black business is some sort of abrasive, designed to scrub pads to prevent excess wear and glazing?

The black strips look to be channels to allow heat to escape between the pads. Could be a great idea or could make for weird feelings in the lever. I’d try a set though!

These look good! And a cheaper price point than XT/XTR. Weight weenie hat on- do we know weights yet??

I LOVE this simply because once you use Centerlocks, you don’t go back to 6-bolts. People have some legitimate gripes about Shimano’s business practices, but i’d hate to see this superior standard languish because of them.
