After seeing the above photo, I’m sure we’re all thinking the same thing: Finally! A hot tub that I can tow around with my bike! The Netherlands’ Weltevree wishes to share with you ‘the essence of outdoor bathing’ with their portable wood-fired Dutch Tub.
The Dutch Tub is designed to allow outdoor bathing wherever you can bring it, and of course find 211 gallons of water to fill it up, and some wood to burn.

The Dutch Tub is made of glass fiber polyester, with a chemical and weather resistant stainless steel coil assembly. The tub can remain outdoors year-round, but only in warmer climates as you cannot let the water freeze inside it. The empty tub weighs 165 lbs and can be attached to a car roof, or towed behind a bicycle or canoe. The tub is 33” tall, 67” in diameter and sits up to four people.
To heat up the Dutch Tub, start a fire in the fire basket. As the fire heats the coils, it pushes the heated water back into the top of the tub, and forces the cooler water at the bottom up through the pipes. Because it relies on convection, you have to regularly stir the water to attain an even temperature. The temperature can be fine-tuned by moving the fire basket up and down the coils, and a supplied ‘wok’ helps trap heat in the coils or can be cooked in while you soak. Weltevree estimates it will heat up to 100° f in about 2 hours.
While the company does sell a wheeled axle for moving the tub by hand, it appears the bicycle trailer in the title photo is a custom job. At least one American bike shop had plans to rent out a mobile Dutch Tub (but have since canned the idea), and had their own custom bicycle built to accommodate it. Let’s just say this is where your creative genius comes in.
