Rubena is one of those brands that many people still haven’t heard of, but the company has an impressive 80 year history of making tires in the Czech Republic. Part of a much larger tire manufacturing operation, the bike side of Rubena’s business covers mountain to road and is slowly expanding to keep up with the trends in mountain biking.
The newest Czech treads come in the form of 27.5″ versions of their Scylla and Charybdis XC/Trail tires…
Marketed as one of Rubena’s fastest and lightest tires, the Scylla is geared towards cross country riding and racing and offers a medium tread with slightly more aggressive side knobs. Offered for the first time in 27.5×2.25, the Scylla uses their Tubeless Supra ultra supple 127 tpi casing with SDX Grey Line dual compound rubber with 60/40a durometers. Pricing should be between $60-70.
The Charybdis is a slightly more aggressive and more versatile tread pattern that is still most at home on XC bikes. Now offered in a 27.5×2.0″ sizing, the mid sized Charybdis will come in a Supra Tubeless 127 tpi casing with a single 50a rubber compound.
