If you’re looking to ditch your 9-5 for a true adventure, there has never been a better time to take up bikepacking. Not only is the equipment better than ever, but it seems that somewhat often traveled routes are becoming more established as more bicycling nomads take to the world’s less traveled roads. Better known for their line of fixed gear and city bikes, Bombtrack bikes is packing their bags and getting in on the touring action with their new Beyond project…
Starting with a steel frame built from a Columbus Chromor tubeset with and ovalized down tube and tapered head tube, the Beyond isn’t a radical departure from current bikepacking rigs though it does include a thru axle fork. Technically still in the prototype phase, the frame includes most braze ons that you would expect from a touring/bikepacking rig with full front and rear rack mounts and plenty of spots for bottle cages.
Bombtrack is planning to equip the Beyond with a SRAM X5 2×10 drivetrain with X7 rear derailleur, TRP Spyre disc brakes with 160mm rotors, DT Swiss X1900 wheels and WTB 29×2.1 Nano tires. Available this September, the bike will be offered in 4 sizes with a retail of $1,999.99.
Putting the bike through a thorough beatdown before its debut, Marc Maurer is currently on A Journey Beyond which will take him from Istanbul, Turkey, all the way to Tehran, Iran. Currently in Georgia, Marc is over halfway through the 4000km journey on his Beyond. Pictured above is Marc’s actual set up which has been customized with a set of Apidura bags along with a TT bar, dyno front hub, and his choice of a Flite saddle.
