If you’re a bike mechanic, chances are high that you go through a lot of disposable gloves. The nitrile gloves are great for protection from chemicals and provide excellent manual dexterity, but they’re certainly lacking in the durability department. However, going to a thicker glove usually results in not being able to properly work on the complex parts of the bicycle. Of course, then there’s that whole thing about throwing away many nitrile gloves once they rip and become worthless.

If you’re looking for something in between the bulky mechanic’s and thin nitrile gloves, Finish Line may have the answer. Designed to be reusable but thin enough as to not compromise your dexterity, Mechanic Grip Gloves look pretty good…

Made with a polyurethane palm, the gloves Will protect you from brake or suspension fluids as long as you don’t dip your whole hand into a bucket. The coating is also thin enough that all but the most intricate tasks should be possible while wearing them. Additionally, the back of the glove is left as open mesh for breathability. Available in the small/medium and large/extra large, Mechanic Grip Gloves will sell for $4.99 a pair.

Now that your hands are covered, Finish Line also has something for your floor. Their new Absorb-it Mat is meant to go under your repair stand or even your trainer and is capable of absorbing a substantial amount of liquid. Available in two sizes, the large mat will hold an impressive 2.5 liters while the smaller will hold 1 liter. Once the mats are full, they can be power washed clean and then air dried and they will go back to their original shape. Absorb-it Mats will sell for $13.99 for the small and $29.99 for the large.

While these lubricants aren’t new, their tiny packaging is. Called the pocket size, the 0.65oz bottles of lubricant are perfect for sticking in your car, your pack, or anywhere someone might ask “yo, you have some chain lube?” Dealers will be able to order them in a 30 Pack fishbowl and each bottle will sell for $2.99.

These gloves (without the Finish Line logo) sell for 1,50 EUR in my local home supply store, even used them once for biking, performed really good vs. my 35 EUR Fox gloves.

FYI:
You can buy a box of 12 pairs of the same gloves (different logo) from Costco for about $20usd. I use them all the time for bike repair, home construction, auto repair, colonoscopies, etc.

Also, equivalent mats can be found at NAPA auto parts, ask for a “Pig Mat”.
Really nothing new here, just rebranding/repackaging of stuff found in other industries and putting it in front of the bike crowd with a hefty markup. More power to ’em.

I don’t know if it’s what you meant to say, but I agree, those nitrile gloves are great for protection from manual dexterity.

Just as Sully says, you can get those gloves cheap at Costco and even Lowes / Home depot.

Re-usable Pig mats are available, about $6 dollars a piece in bulk, slightly more for singles.

Dirty hands. Dirty gloves.
Or buy a box of 100 latex gloves at Lowe’s for $10.
BTW, Lowe’s sells really good lube too…at 30-40% of the price.
