If you haven’t heard by now, freeride legend Paul Basagoitia was injured during what had to be one of the best and biggest runs in the history of the Red Bull Rampage. The resulting spinal injury has Paul facing a long and expensive road to recovery but he is receiving a tremendous amount of support from his family, friends, and fellow riders and his crash has set the ball rolling on how to make the sport safer for competitors in the future.

Now, it’s your turn. If you haven’t already donated to his Road to Recovery Fund, or just want an insanely awesome print for your wall, Scott Sports and photographer Justin Olsen have one (1!) up for sale…

This is more than just any print of Paul’s ridiculous riding. This was his first two page spread, which appeared in Bike magazine. Shot by Justin Olsen during production of Where the Trail Ends by Freeride Entertainment / Red Bull Media House, the huge moment in Paul’s career will be printed on a stretched canvas gallery wrap and is ready for hanging anywhere in your house, office, or bike shop.

“Paul is part of the SCOTT family and we’re pleased to help Justin with this auction,” said Zack Vestal, Bike Marketing Manager. “Justin came to us with the concept and we had no hesitation in covering his production costs.” Vestal continued, “We will be supporting Paul in this way and in a number of ways not always visible to the public. He’s important to us of course as a rider and also as a representative of our brand and what we stand for.”

Only two have been made – one for you (the winner of the auction) and the other will be delivered to Paul. All proceeds will also go directly to Paul’s Road to Recovery fund. You have until Sunday night to bid!

I’m glad to see Scott stepping up (although hard to tell what they are doing) given what Paul has provided their MTB line. As I understand it, these aren’t employers, they are sponsors for something like Enduro right?

I think title sponsors should provide health insurance for their rides. It’s just common sense to keep your riders healthy right?

I think Redbull should provide full insurance, not minor sponsors.

I think the guy should be treated somewhere in the EU or Canada were healthcare is free instead.

I think red bull should pay for the majority of his medical expenses. How much do the make off these events? …

I agree. Red Bull, GoPro, Scott, and lots of other companies getting big publicity from events like the “Red Bull Rampage”. The least they could do is underwrite catastrophic health insurance policies for the riders during the events.

Weak.
A collaborative effort by his title sponsor?
Better idea; Scott pays for the print production and sells an unlimited amount with all proceeds going to Paul’s recovery fund.
They would write it off most likely anyway.
Weak.

I won’t even enter a Super D race if I don’t have my own health insurance. Can’t imagine why someone would enter Rampage without it…
