UK-based online retailer Wiggle has has added another in-house label to their catalog with Cosine components. Debuting with six road wheelsets in a mix of aluminum and carbon rims, the new brand aims to bring performance at a more affordable pricepoint than most big company offerings. Spec’ed with no-nonsense components and generally wider blunt rim profiles, with the ides to reap performance gains for the best possible value, Cosine offers upgrade potential from entry level to mid market bikes. Roll past the break for details and pricing…
Along with their new Eastway and Verenti bikes, Wiggle hopes that the riders looking to upgrade their bikes will come to see Cosine as a good deal in performance components. The brand starts off with a range of clincher road wheels to appeal to time trialers, amateur cyclocross racers, and riders tackling fast club rides and longer sportives. Going forward Cosine is expected to grow in its line-up, with a saddle range expected to come to market in the very near future as well.
The carbon wheels come in three depths to fit most road riding styles. Climbers will likely go for the shallow 30mm profile, all-around riders might pick the 45mm deep wheels, while the time trial specialist will lean towards the 55mm profile. Each full carbon clincher sells for £600/880€/$855 regardless of depth and will probably offer a bit of weight savings and some better aerodynamics over most stock wheelsets. Each of the rim-brake carbon clincher wheels uses a reinforced braking area with a heat and abrasion resistant resin for consistent brake performance and long life of the wheel. All three rim depths share the same 23.4mm external/19mm internal width for a wide stable tire contact patch.
The matte UD Cosine carbon clincher rims are built on sealed cartridge bearing, 11 speed 7075 aluminum hubs with aero Sapim CX Delta spokes. Each wheelset gets laced with 20 front/24 rear spokes and external brass nipples. Wheelsets are supplied with carbon-specific brake pads, rim tape, a 10 speed cassette spacer, and light external cam QR skewers. All carbon wheelsets are currently in stock with free delivery in pretty much worldwide.
To go with three carbon wheelsets, Cosine has three aluminum models as well for affordable everyday performance. Whether for training through the winter, riding with friend or commuting to work aluminum wheels are the workhorses that most of us tend to spend the most time on year round. The 32mm deep alloy wheels are likely the best value rim-brake model from Cosine anyway. At less than 1500g and £250/365€/$357, they are less than half the price of the carbon wheelsets, yet 100g lighter than the lightest of Cosine’s carbon wheels. Plus, they’ll offer comparable aero benefits to the 30mm carbon clinchers, better aluminum braking, and tubeless compatibility for better flat protection and lower rolling resistance.
The 23mm deep aluminum disc brake wheelset offers similar value at just £180/265€/$257. Just 20g heavier than the 32mm rim brake wheels, the disc brake version offer a lower rim depth, so less of an aero benefit, but adds in an asymmetric rim shape for a strong and durable wheel and a wide, tubeless-ready 24mm outer/19mm inner rim well suited for cyclocross or gravel riding. A third, budget aluminum wheelset will also be available with a 24mm deep profile at just £70/~110€/~$100.
The 32mm alloy tubeless-ready clinchers get 20/24 double-butted spokes and include a steel bite guard on their aluminum cassette body. The 23mm disc wheels use 135mm rear spacing and machined 6-bolt hubs for a precise rotor mount. They get a disc specific road rim without a brake track and 24 spokes front and rear. Although both of their rims are tubeless-ready, they do not ship with tubeless tape or tubeless valves.
All of Cosine’s aluminum wheels use alloy hubs with sealed cartridge bearings, and black stainless steel spokes. They each get 11 speed Shimano/SRAM freehub bodies, and come with an 8/9/10 speed cassette spacer and lightweight external cam alloy QR skewers. The 32mm and Disc wheels are in stock now, with free delivery almost worldwide for the aero wheelset and to more than 30 countries for the disc wheels.
