The Cyclocross 2015/2016 season ins’t quite over, with the much anticipated Zolder World Championships to come in just over a week and a half, but photographer Balint Hamvas is already looking forward to his annual photo album of the sport. Hamvas made a pretty significant move to cover more of women’s pro cycling throughout the year over the last couple of seasons, but still keeps a muddy place in his heart for cross. This year he has decided to look to Kickstarter to raise money for Cyclocross 2015/2016, so he can continue to work on documenting cycling, but have a bit more assurances of the sales for the essentially one-man operation that is the planning, photographing, writing, and production of the annual publication.
This year marks Hamvas’ sixth edition of the cyclocross tome. He has a special section in the works devoted to Sven Nys, longtime cross master who is retiring from competition after the season, with a look back at his career through stories and archive images. The rest of the 240 page book will include his best photos from all of the major European races with sections devoted to: the World Cup, the Superprestige, the BPost Bank Trofee series, and the upcoming World Championships.
Over at Kickstarter, £30 will preorder a copy of the book for you with delivery in July 2016. For a few more quid you can get your name in the book as a supporter or a limited-edition print. There’s even one £500 spot left that includes a day at the races with Hamvas next season. And a nice, new by-product of the Kickstarter campaign, for just a £5 contribution you won’t get the book, but will get a small A5 print of your choosing from his catalog.
