After a quick glimpse at Eurobike at a prototype, we hadn’t seen or heard much about the new Gravity dropper post. No, not the original GravityDropper, but the new dropper post from FSA’s own Gravity brand which is geared towards, well, gravity fed mountain biking. Now, just as the season of trade shows and events is cranking up, we have word of not one, but two slightly different dropper seat posts that will fall under the FSA/Gravity umbrella. But which one you’ll be able to get your hands on depends on which side of the pond you call home…
When we were offered a peek at the Gravity prototype, it still had a gold anodized shaft. The change to a black finish seems to be the biggest change since we first saw it. Otherwise the details include internal stealth routing with a mechanical/cable actuated remote. Built around a sealed cartridge system, both the cartridge and brass key ways are replaceable for easy maintenance – with FSA/Gravity stating service parts will be readily available. With a claimed weight of 715g for the Gravity version it won’t win the favor of weight weenies, but the $299 price tag will be attractive to many. Offered in 100 (383mm L) and 125mm (408mm L) travel versions, the posts will be available in 30.9 and 31.6mm diameters.
While almost identical, the FSA version will be a Europe-only product. The only difference between the two comes in the form of the MTC (Minimal Top Clamp) compared to the FTC (Flat Top Clamp). Other than differentiating the two, it does shave a few grams – claimed weight is 710g. Offered in the same sizes and lengths as the Gravity post, pricing should also be equivalent.
Both should be available around April, just in time for the Sea Otter Classic.
