Known more for their performance road, cross, and trail bikes, direct-to-consumer Fezzari has just introduced a new set of low-cost city bikes with belt-drive transmissions. Named Simbi (read: simple bicycle) the bikes are available with either a standard or step-through alloy frame, and use an internally geared hub to boost their versatility. While stripped to the essentials, Fezzari wanted to dramatically lower the buy-in cost of getting a proper modern bike to roam the city streets, and looks to have done a good job. At just $400, the Simbi looks to be a simple city cruiser with a bit of modern low maintenance tech and a bit of fun, designed to get more non-cyclists on a bike. The 3-speed belt-drive city bike uses an air-formed aluminum frame with horizontal dropouts and a split driveside stay to slide in a belt. The frame also gets a full set of mounts front and rear for both racks and fenders.
The belt isn’t a Gates system (no surprise at this price level), but sticks with a standard setup with a CNC ring for quiet and clean operation. The belt spins a Shimano Nexus 3-speed hub for low maintenance versatility, and smooth shifting. Cockpit-wise the Simbis get a subtle mustache bar and matching synthetic leather grips and saddle.
The Simbi comes in a standard Hi-Rise frame or the Low-rise step-through, two sizes and two colors per style. Fezzari also offers some basic city bike accessories that can be added on, like full-coverage fenders, a wood-bottomed alloy basket, an alloy rear rack, and a retro-look light set built on modern LEDs.
