No relation to the Marvel universe but still sure to provide plenty of summertime entertainment, WeThePeople’s new Avenger BMX cruiser looks sure to be a fun ride. The 26″ beach cruiser is said to be inspired by the old school BMX bikes that exposed WTP’s designers to the fun and freedom of riding bikes. Although it’s a brand new bike this year, WTP feels like the Avenger has been with them all along. A nod to bikes of the early 80’s, this is the style of bike that introduced a generation of cyclists to BMX, and bikes in general, before laying the groundwork for the growth of mountain bikes in the late 90’s. Now scaled up to a 26″ cruiser, the Avenger might be a good bike to recall our roots, as much as it would be fun to take to the pump track.
WeThePeople custom built several components just for the Avenger as a look back to classic BMX parts. The bike uses a 1” threaded steerer and gets a custom 1″ WTP stem. WTP also made their own bear trap pedals and high-flange hubs to get the look they were going after. Combine that with a solid build (the bike weighs almost 30lbs/13.6kg) and some modern 2.3″ K-Rad tires for a good grip, and a sure to be fun ride.
While surely a bike looking to the past, WeThePeople built it to handle modern riding. Between quality chromoly frame, fork, handlebar, and crankarms, sealed bearings throughout, and alloy components, the Avenger is built to take some abuse. Sure, it’ll look cool cruising around the city. But just like when you were a kid, this thing will be itching to hit that section of singletrack on the outskirts of town, and it’s sure to get taken off some sweet jumps behind the grocery store.
The Avenger is available everywhere now in very limited quantities for 950€/$750.
