It seems like everyone’s moving to 30mm spindles. With many of the smaller crank makers already offering 30mm spindles to fit in a multitude of frames, we’ve even heard rumors of the biggest two considering the larger option. While the 30mm spindles can technically fit in just about every bottom bracket shell, it doesn’t mean that all bottom brackets are created equal.
Ever since 30mm crank spindles started to get more popular, Kogel bearings has fielded requests from customers looking for a better way to cram it into a BB86/BB92 bottom bracket shell. Finding most current options either using extremely thin bearings or eliminating the cup completely, Kogel wanted an option that was more durable. Let’s face it, no one loves a creaky bottom bracket.
For Kogel that meant redesigning the bearing races so that they were small enough to allow for the same size ball bearing as they use in their BB30 bottom bracket. Of equal importance was the ability to fit their Cross seals to make sure those larger bearings stayed clean in a variety of conditions. Thinking that they’ve found the answer to BB86/BB92 to 30mm needs, the new ceramic bottom brackets are now available through their dealers and web store for $189.99 with either Road or Cross seals.
To celebrate, they are giving away a BB86-30 (or any other bottom bracket they make) in celebration of the upcoming DK200…
Amanda “Panda” Nauman is a monster on the bike. After winning the Dirty Kanza 200 in 2015, she is headed back to Kansas this weekend to put some more miles on her Kogel bottom brackets – which Kogel is happy to point out that a single BB lasted Amanda more than 5000 miles, offroad. To bring a little competition to the mix, Kogel is giving away a bottom bracket, but you’ll probably need a crystal ball (or be really lucky) to win. The catch is that you have to predict Amanda’s finishing time for the DK200. Closest to the actual time wins a Kogel bottom bracket, and even installation if you’re close to a Kogel dealer. Head on over to the site listed below to enter, and good luck at DK200 Amanda!
