Wheels Manufacturing has just introduced a new bottom bracket bearing press and has given us a first look. Toying with calling the low-cost drifts Devo, the universal BB press is made to fit all current Wheels Mfg. models of press fit bearings from PF24 through to BB95, and everything in between. That means that it will likely fit just about every other manufacturer’s bottom bracket bearings as well, and comes at a reasonable price. The clean and simple BB press tool is made of two machined aluminum handles that spin on a zinc-plated 1/2″ threaded rod. The handles drive a pair of step machined aluminum drifts that securely fit into standard press fit bottom bracket bearings for a simple and true install. The universal drifts are designed to eliminate the search for a different precise tool for each BB install job, and can be flipped around to cycle through all standards offered by Wheels Mfg.
That includes 22, 24, and 30mm BB axle diameters and every size shell you can think of to fit those: PF24, BB30, PF30, BB86, BB92, BBRight, BB386EVO, plus Cannondale’s BB30A & PF30A, Specialized’s OSBBs, and Trek’s BB90 & BB95.
Regular MSRP for the press will be $35 once this first run goes, but that means that the special price now is just $17.50. Wheels hasn’t said how many they’ve already made, just that supplies are limited, so first-come, first-served.
