Where Roost Meets Wave. Depending on where you’re from, that statement may have a different meaning, but for Sombrio it sums up life on the coast of British Columbia. Given the brand’s Vancouver roots, it shouldn’t be surprising to see them finding inspiration from the land and sea just outside their doorstep. Along with a few new models and styles, the newest Sombrio line adds a look that is equal parts Roost and Wave.
The Roost element is further heightened by their Forest Collection which is a collaboration with Margus Riga. Offered on a number of pieces, you’ll be able to wear a piece of mountain biking artwork in the form of some trail worthy gear….
If you’ve read any mountain bike magazines, watched videos, or generally just been around the mountain bike scene, you’ve probably seen Margus Riga’s work. The well known Canadian MTB photographer’s work is prominently displayed on Sombrio’s new Forest Collection which includes the men’s Renegade jersey ($55), the women’s Vista 3/4 jersey ($70), and accessories including gloves and hats. The Artist Collaboration pieces use a sublimated print of an actual Riga photo with Cool Wik and Chill Mesh (Vista jersey) fabric.
Guys will be able to pair the Renegade jersey with either the new Highline (left) or Badass (right) shorts. Stepping in as their lightest men’s short, the 4-way stretch Highline is designed to be just as durable as their other options but with a more airy feel. Details include laser cut ventilation, a rear stow and two front pockets, and a premium adjustable waist with laser cut rubber tabs and a reinforced velcro two snap closure for $110. The $100 Badass borrows a number of features from the favorite Pinner short and offers a 4 way stretch fabric with a DWR coating, seamless crotch panels, and a velcro waist adjuster. The 15″ inseam and standard fit offers better integration with kneepad fit while the Highline goes with a 13.5″ inseam and slim fit.
When you get as much rain as the Pacific Northwest, good wet weather gear is essential. Sombrio’s new Vapor jacket steps in to keep the rain off your shoulders with a 10,000mm waterproof 4 way stretch fabric with a DWR finish and fully taped seams. Built with a non-removable helmet compatible hood, the jacket offers 3 zippered pockets and an open back yoke for ventilation at $198.
Not to be left out, the women’s collection includes a number of new pieces including their own Epik Collection with the $55 Rise N’ Climb tank and $110 Summit Shorts (their women’s version of the Highline). The ladies also get a new Squall jacket with a lightweight, packable design .
Sombrio hasn’t forgotten the kids either. Their new Grom collection will fit little shredders with a fit meant for youth sizes 8-12. Built with the same tech as the matching men’s pieces, these smaller options will make sure your little one looks the part whether they’re trying to be the next Crankworx champion, or just going out for a rip with mom and dad.
