All City’s latest bike is a horse of a different color – well, not just color, but components as well. The original Space Horse was a hit due to its ability to adapt to whatever the ride required. With a ride somewhere between a true road and long distance touring bike plus rack mounts and big tire clearance, the Space Horse could take you on some epic journeys.
Now, All City is teaching an old horse new tricks with the new disc brake model. In addition to improved stopping, the frame offers a few new details which should take this horse out of this world…
Over the course of their relatively short existence, All City has really focused on the little frame details. Features like brazed seat collars, intricate dropouts, and lugged fork crowns. The Space Horse Disc continues those trends, but it adds a new rear dropout with a key feature – a replaceable derailleur hanger. Yes, steel hangers can be straightened, but rip a derailleur off the frame or worse, break off the tab and you’re in trouble. The new dropout uses a standard aluminum replaceable hanger and moves to a vertical dropout.
The frame still features full fender and rack mounts with the front fork offering double eyelets at the dropouts and mid mounts for a number of rack mounting options.
In order to improve the fit across the board, the smallest two sizes (43 and 46cm) use 650b wheels, while the remaining sizes (49 through 61cm) use 700c wheels. Tire clearance is capped at 42mm for the 700c wheel bikes and 45mm for the 650b bikes.
Frame details include their 612 tubing which is a custom selection of 4130 chomoly double butted tubes which are all treated with an ED (Electrophoretic Deposition) coating which greatly cuts down on rust inside the tubing (no need for Frame Saver). Spaced at 135mm in the rear, the frame is QR only front and back and sized for 140mm rear and 160mm front rotors.
