Since we first got on SRAM’s Red eTap group a year ago, we wondered how long we would have to wait to get the big cassette compatibility that WiFLi had already offered on the mechanical groupset. SRAM asked us to be patient. But now that we have had a chance to play with the new Red eTap HRD wireless shifting, hydraulic disc brake group with its revised HydroHC braking we were getting anxious. Well, SRAM gave us an answer. The Red eTap WiFLi rear derailleur is now official, and it will be available by the end of this year, in time for new builds with the new HRD group. It is pretty simple and straight forward to take your Red eTap bike to the next level with WiFLi. The only all-new part is the Red eTap WiFLi rear derailleur, which will handle up to a 32t cassette to get you up the steepest climbs. It combines with the existing WiFLi PowerGlide and PowerdomeX cassettes that were already a part of the mechanical shifting groups.
It then takes commands from the same Red eTap wireless shifters, meaning it will work with existing rim-brake eTap groups, as well as the forthcoming hydraulic disc brake group that will be available in early 2017.
The new derailleur is designed to work with the 11-32 11 speed cassette, but can still work down to an 11-26. It weighs just 243g with the battery (which is only 5g more than its shorter-caged sibling.) It will sell on its own for $610/€570/£485, and will be available in December 2016.
A complete Red eTap WiFLi Upgrade Kit will also be available that bundles in the new WiFLi derailleur, its battery, an XG-1190 11-32 cassette, and a new Red 22 chain. That full kit will set you back $920/€907/£745.
