As bike packing’s popularity grows, so do the options for carrying your gear. Ortlieb already offers accessory, handlebar, and seat packs, but soon the company’s frame packs will come online. Built with typical Ortlieb precision and high quality materials, the packs look like they could be a great option to help you get out there and explore…
Technically still shown as a prototype, the Ortlieb frame pack is getting very close to production. Finished versions will have internal reinforcements to keep the sides from bulging which can be an issue with over loaded bags. Attaching to the frame with multiple velcro straps, each one will have a rubber backing to help it stay in place. Additional features like zipper locks and an IP57 waterproof rating will help you get there with dry gear. To be offered in two sizes, the 4L bag will weigh 186g and be priced at €99.95, while the larger 6L bag comes in a 232g and €119.95.
Less bike packing and more bike partying, the Rack Box is basically a fancy Styrofoam cooler made to fit your rack. Featuring a lid that latches into place or can be swiveled to the side, the cooler has an 18L capacity, weighs 990g, and will sell for €99.95.
Ortlieb has a more conventional trunk bag available as well called the, well, Trunk Bag. The IP64 waterproof bag uses a roll top closure, fits 12L of gear, and weighs in at 825g for €99.95.
Finally, to go along with their handlebar bags which have built in hooks, Ortlieb will have new smartphone Protection Bags. Offered in five sizes to fit multiple phones, pricing ranges from €24.95-39.95 in black or lime. In addition to keeping your phone protected from water with an IP54 waterproof rating, the cases also keep your phone front and center to use for mapping purposes while you ride.
