Earlier this year, it was announced that it was ok to believe the hype – SE Bikes really was doing a collaboration with Public Enemy. The latest addition to the surprising evolution of the super sized Big Ripper, SE Bikes announced that they would be doing another collaboration, only this time it would be with the famous hip hop group, Public Enemy. While the PK Ripper Looptail was originally brought back as a collaboration between SE Bikes and DC Shoes, the Big Ripper’s roots can actually be traced back to the TV show Rob & Big. The “massive man bikes” turned out to be a hit, and the rest is history.
SE Bikes expected the Big Ripper to be a hit with the aging old school BMX crowd. But they also turned out to be popular with the “Bike Life” movement and wheelie crews that get together and pull huge wheelies down the streets. So, when it came time to launch the Public Enemy Big Ripper at the end of the Summer, there was only one thing to do – organize a Rideout with Dblocks, the Cycle Squad Maniaccs, and SE Bikes’ own Todd Lyons, and ride from Manhattan to Brooklyn for a concert by none other than Public Enemy…
