After a win at the Tour de France, and multiple Olympic medals, Sir Bradley Wiggins is calling it quits. Announced via the team Wiggins official facebook page, the 36 year old British champ is moving on from competing professionally though it appear that Team Wiggins will carry on. The news comes just weeks after numerous press outfits dove into controversy surrounding a mysterious package delivered to the team at the 2011 Criterium du Dauphiné, though we certainly hope the timing of Wiggins’ retirement announcement is just a coincidence. Sir Bradley Wiggins has done a lot for the UK cycling scene, and the UK in general – evidenced by the outpouring of support after the news.

Read the full statement from Wiggins after the break…

From Wiggins:

Sir Bradley Wiggins “I have been lucky enough to live a dream and fulfil my childhood aspiration of making a living and a career out of the sport I fell in love with at the age of 12. I’ve met my idols and ridden with and alongside the best for 20 years. I have worked with the world’s best coaches and managers who I will always be grateful to for their support.

What will stick with me forever is the support and love from the public though thick and thin, all as a result of riding a pushbike for a living. 2012 blew my mind and was a gas. Cycling has given me everything and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wonderful wife Cath and our amazing kids.

2016 is the end of the road for this chapter, onwards and upwards, “feet on the ground, head in the clouds” kids from Kilburn don’t win Olympic Golds and Tour de Frances’! They do now.”#WIGGINS

For the sake of cycling, let’s hope the semi-annual Sir Bradley Wiggins retirement sticks this time so the world can move on.

We’ll never forget you, Stanley.

They are all on some sort of program. Always have been, always will be. No one wants to watch a slow Tour de France, hence why they cut the mileage almost in half of the original. Even then, cocaine & morphine use was common in top finishers.

Was once best explained as this by an insider: pro cycling, in the end, is in the entertainment business. The rules are in place to keep the riders safe. If you test positive, you are not being safe and risk your life. If you test negative you are being safe and have proper medical supervision. It’s a romantic notion that any major race was ever won by a 100% clean rider. Especially since the mid 90s tje chances are zero.

There is no cheating. No person would cheat because the cost to them, if found out, is far too high to even take the chance.

Keep believing in pro cycling!
