Bike luggage & strap maker Restrap just dropped a new water bottle design that gets rid of the cage and secures the bidon to your bike frame with magnets. We’ve worked with the easy-to-use and surprisingly secure magnetic closures & latches from Restrap on their camera straps and bikepacking bags, and now they have adapted them to work with a special water bottle for easy access in frames that might otherwise be restricted for space. Whether it is due to frame or suspension design constraints or the use of frame bags for travel by bike, the new Mag Bottle makes it easy to slide another bottle onto your bike…
Restrap’s Mag Bottle attaches to your bike via a strong magnetic bracket that bolts onto the standard bottle cage bolts on your frame or fork. While the bottle itself has markings that indicate one side as ‘UP’, it looks like the bracket that mounts to the bike is symmetric and offset, so you may have the option to position it so that the bottle can move either up or down from the bottle bosses depending on your frame’s clearances.
To operate the Mag mount, the strong magnets glide the bottle into place and snap it onto the mount when you get it close to the bracket (in the same manner as the function of their other magnetic clasps, from the look of things.) To remove the bottle, simply twist it to release the clasps and that’s it. The 600ml clear smoke colored bottle sells for £29 including the magnetic bracket integrated onto the bottle and the bracket with the posts that you bolt to the frame.
