Already one of my favorite options to stuff in your pack for unplanned weather, the Gore Rescue jacket is about to get even better. Shown as a sneak peek at Sea Otter, the next generation is simply called the Rescue B. Far more than a single letter though, the new version includes some heavy hitting features, including the move to full Gore-Tex…
While original Rescue jacket was very water resistant, at the end of the day it was still just Windstopper fabric with taped seams for blocking the wind. Rescue B on the other hand will switch to full Gore-Tex using the same laminate as their new shake dry jackets, just with a 3 layer construction. That third layer is important for a mountain bike jacket as it greatly increases the durability of the outer shell adding substantial abrasion resistance.
Another big change is the move to a full zipper instead of the half zip on the original. The full zip will add a little weight, but it will also make it much easier to take on and off for quick changes trail side. The jacket used fully taped seams and includes a permanent hood, and is part of the Fall/Winter 17/18 collection. Expect the price to be around $250.
