Ready to tackle the road less traveled? So is ENVE. Jumping into the world of purpose built gravel components, the new M525 G combines the best of their new M-Series MTB carbon rim design with builds meant for a road bike. While they’ll still be offering the CX Disc wheelset for cross applications, the M525 G is better suited to gravel builds with a wider internal width and better pinch flat resistance.

That’s all thanks to the M525 rim which is the same as used on their XC wheelsets. Offered in 650b or 700c diameters, the rims have a 25mm internal width and a hookless bead. Part of their new rim design, the rim profile itself is claimed to provide a 60% improvement in pinch flat resistance – which becomes very important on skinny(ish) gravel tires.

To configure them for the road, the wheels are sold with either DT Swiss 240 Centerlock or Chris King R45 Centerlock hubs with options for 12 x 100 or 15 x 100 front and 12 x 142mm rear thru axles. The 24 spoke wheels also include options of Shimano or SRAM XD freehubs, and eight decal colors to match your ride. Built with DT Swiss 240 hubs and 700c rims, the wheelset has a claimed weight of 1368g and a price of $2800 which includes ENVE’s 5 year warranty and Lifetime Product Guarantee.

Santa,
Is it too late to add these to my list for this Christmas?

At $2800.00 a set. No thanks. Love my Reynolds ATR’s and a deal at $1500.00 a set. And I’ll take Reynolds life-time warranty over the 5 year. But I will probably never need it as all of the Reynolds I have owned have been bomb proof.

Sooooo they found a way to sell you their NOS of old mtb wheels when rims were skinnier and hub spacing was 135?

What the hell are you talking about, NOS? This is the new M series profile rim with less spokes. It resembles nothing from the previous M’s. But I digress, finding less than astute observations in the BR comment section is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I honestly don’t see much of a point. The profile is new, but the idea is old and Enve is the last to the party trying to bring some weak bean dip… I could just take Nox (skyline?) rim and achieve pretty the same weight to strength ratio.

Hilarious! In the last 10 years building and riding Enve I can’t say I ever recall them ever bringing weak bean dip to the party. And what does the order of procession have anything to do with it? Sure you can just about replicate the same entire line up the with any number of cheaper Chiwanese carbon for half the price, I build plenty of those as well. But… so what.

If you’re running pressures high enough to worry about that, you’re doing it wrong.

You know their 4.5AR wheels are hookless, too, right? Even if you are running higher pressures, the rim edge is a larger diameter than the tire bead. Anything that causes a tire to come off a hookless rim (pinch flat, puncture blow out, etc) would cause a tire to come off of a hooked rim, as well.

One would never run enough pressure to blow ANY properly seated tire off of ANY hookless rim. The hook isn’t what holds the tire on the rim.

Thank you.

I blew a tire clean off a rim once in my early days of MTB tubeless on a stans-converted rim. Was seating the tire with a CO2 cartridge and froze the damn thing onto my fingers so well I couldn’t shut off the valve. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS- BANG!!! 🙂
Just riding along? No, not going to happen.

The rim profile looks a lot like my Mavic carbon pro mtb rims which I really like and cost a lot less..like half the cost.

psst Light Bicycle makes hookless 22mm rims and has for awhile. they work great with gravel tires @45psi. $150 or so a rim. sub 380g. junglecross tested.
