Last year, multi-time fourcross world champ Michal Prokop debuted a weekend enduro MTB race where riders take on a series of timed trail sections on a secret course. Now he’s bringing the popular format to drop bar bikes and Czech gravel roads. And registration opens tomorrow with a good chance of selling out quick.
Blinduro Gravel timed sector drop bar off-road racing
Even though Prokop is know for winning every 4X title the UCI ran, he’s no stranger to other disciplines as well. He raced both BMX at the Olympics and the Track Team Sprint at Worlds, and now spends a lot of his time staying fit and hitting the roads & trails out of his backyard on a gravel bike. So after the success of his mountain bike event last summer (and it selling out in just a few hours), he thought he would expand to his next passion.
The concept is simple. Two days of blind gravel enduro riding on track you don’t get to preview. Race the timed sectors and cruise at an easy pace with friends between on the transfers. You need a helmet & drop bars. The rest is up to you.
The race is the latest we’ve heard to expand on the gravel racing Grinduro concept, but here maybe on a more low-key, even family friendly event. It takes on a 60km loop on Saturday with a third of the overall timed sections. Then on Sunday you do the same loop the opposite way around with the other two thirds of the timed bits. In between, it’s a festival environment as racers hang out, camp out, and enjoy “good food, coffee, music, street art, bike testing, and a workshop with a local frame builder.”
The race takes place in the quiet middle of nowhere in south Bohemia in the Czech Republic on the border with Austria in a town called Staré Město pod Landštejnem on June 22-23. That’s about a two hour drive from either Prague, Brno, or Vienna.
Registration opens tomorrow February 1 at 12:00 noon central European time (11:00 GMT, 06:00 EST), and will run for a max of two weeks. Set up a quick account at the Czech Enduro Series before you register. There are age categories from kids 15 years old on up, and no license needed.
Come join us. Bikerumor Europe will be representing.
