Mountian bike films have come a long way since the early days. With bigger budgets, better equipment, and the world as a back drop, it’s no surprise that recent films are gaining a lot more attention – and not just from the audience. Joining the ranks of Rebecca Rusch’s Blood Road, Volcanico is the latest mountain bike film that can add ‘Emmy award winning’ to its description.

Modify Content’s full film follows Kurt Sorge, Nico Vink, and Kyle Jameson as they set out to ride Momotombo – an active volcano in Nicaragua. The film ended up winning an Emmy for Technical Achievement thanks to the aerial filming of Matt Katsolis. However, the rest of the footage is just as breathtaking and illustrates a pretty wild adventure on some completely uncharted territory since the recent eruption.

The Return to Momotombo follows the same crew as they go back to Nicaragua to make it all the way to the summit. This time they’d be returning to the volcano’s slopes properly equipped to deal with the noxious fumes and with an uninjured Sorge to make it to the top as a team. For this film, Katsolis was not able to make the journey but the cinematography is still impressive.

Terreno is a shorter edit of both trips combined.

If you missed it back in October when it was announced, Blood Road is another incredible film that is definitely worth your time to watch. This film follows Rebecca Rusch as she rides with Vietnamese rider Huyen Nguyen to traverse the Ho Chi Minh trail in search of her father’s final resting place after he was shot down and crashed during the Vietnam war. Also Emmy award winning, Red Bull TV’s Blood Road won for Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction in a documentary.
