So, the 106th Tour de France ended last night and you can’t use that as an excuse for being distracted at work anymore. But Mavic is making it easy to remember this year’s Tour with a series of special limited edition carbon road wheels adorned with some cool, but subtle graphics celebrating the 21 stages.
Mavic Tour de France 2019 special edition carbon wheels
We spotted the Ltd wheels on the carbon Eddy Merckx of Romain Bardet, but for once these aren’t just a pro-only one-off. The limited edition wheels are available in three different depths to suit all types of racing at the Tour, plus rim or disc brake versions, and two spec levels to meet all budgets.
And each wheelset gets graphics highlighting the best of the Tour stages suited to each’s riding style.
Mavic Comete Pro Carbon UST Tour de France family
The Comete Pro Carbon family is the deepest and Mavic’s most aerodynamic wheelsets. The 64mm deep rim provides the largest canvas for the special TdF graphics, and singles out the straight sprints of the fastest stages from the Brussels start to the Paris finish.
The 26mm wide (19mm internal) full carbon NACA-profile tubeless rim is laced with bladed spokes to Instant Drive 360 hubs, in either rim brake or centerlock disc with 12mm thru-axles.
The Comete Pro Carbon UST Disc TdF sells for 1300€ with a claimed wheelset weight of 1840g. The 2000€ Comete Pro Carbon SL UST Disc TdF is a bit lighter at 1755g. For those with rim brakes these are available only in the 1635g, 2000€ Comete Pro Carbon SL UST – no cheaper standard carbon version. Mavic ships all of the UST tubeless Tour de France edition wheels with their 25mm Yksion Pro UST tires.
Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon UST Tour de France family
If windy days and rolling hills are more your bag, the Cosmic Pro Carbon is the best option for exploring all of France. These are also full carbon UST tubeless rims with 19mm internal/25mm internal widths for the 40mm deep rim brake wheels, and 19mm internal/28mm external for the 45mm deep disc wheels, both with fast Instant Drive 360 hub internals.
The ltd. Cosmic Pro’s also feature mid-depth aero NACA profile which Mavic then decorates with winding roads and icons of the greatest hits of what you’ll see on the French summer roads. These mid-depth carbon wheels are meant to climb well and still be confident descenders.
Again, the wheels come in rim brake 2000€ SL version only (1490g), or for disc brakes in a 1300€ standard Disc version (1650g) or a 2000€ Disc SL (1515g) variant.
Mavic Ksyrium Pro Carbon UST Tour de France family
Lastly, the Ksyrium Pro Carbon UST Tour de France is meant to be an everyday, lightweight climbing wheelset. While the other two Tour-edition wheels come out of Mavic’s aero-focused lines, these top-level, full carbon Ksyriums are meant to be tough & reliable, not simply lightweight.
These carbon clinchers also get brake-specific rim widths – 25mm external/19mm internal for rim brakes, 26mm external/21mm internal for disc brakes – designed to fly up hills. And with lighter weights than the Cosmics, they should make good climbers. There is less space on 32mm deep disc brake rims, even more so on the shallower 25mm deep rim brake rims under the braking surface. But Mavic still manages to squeeze in a bunch of little mountain & forest icons, with twisty roads winding in between them.
Again offered in 2000€ rim brake SL (1445g), 2000€ disc brake SL (1495g), and 1300€ standard carbon disc brake (1620g) versions.
All three of the full carbon Tour de France 2019 edition wheels are available direct from Mavic, while they last.
