When I think of Sidi, stiff & efficient XC and road shoes come to mind. But the Italian shoemaker is branching out with the new Dimaro, their first ever shoes designed specifically for modern technical mountain biking on wide platform clipless pedals.
Sidi Dimaro DH & Enduro all-mountain bike shoes
Building on decades of constructing light & stiff shoes with a focus on road and cross-country racers, the new Dimaro is quite a departure. Sidi has made a number of MTB shoes in the past that leaned towards more general trail use with walkable soles, but they usually seemed to be a much lower performance level, geared more towards entry-level cyclists.
These new gravity Dimaro shoes follow on Sidi’s racing focus, just now targeted at new disciplines – namely enduro & downhill. And for a first foray into gravity shoes, they look like a pretty solid offering
Tech details
The core of a great gravity shoe is a good sole, and Sidi have partnered with Vibram for a proprietary Megagrip outsole with soft, sticky rubber. Sidi says the rubber itself was selected to dampen trail vibrations and to soak up hard landings.
Under the pedal, a tight pattern of triangle tread grooves are meant to provide ample grip for traction pins, and a removable cleat plate allows use with SPD pedals. Inside, the shoes’ midsole is constructed of dense EVA foam that is said to offer stiff platform support for efficient pedaling, and added shock absorption.
The shoes’ upper is a two-piece synthetic microfiber with laser perforated vents across the toes and sides of the mid-foot. A large two-piece velcro strap protects the vented, padded tongue from mud & trail debris, and keeps the shoes’ laces secure as well.
Besides coverage from extended bumpers from the sole, additional reinforcement over the toe & heel offer additional protection from trail damage. The heel cup also gets extended coverage to keep debris out with a partial neoprene gaiter.
Sidi’s new Dimaro – their first shoe “specifically designed for today’s downhill, enduro, and all-mountain riders” – will sell for $225 in whole sizes from 37-48 when they hit bike shops starting in September 2019.
