Lake updates a classic with dual Boa, fullgrain leather CX238 road shoe

After years in their line up as one of their most popular shoes, the Lake CX237 is getting an upgrade. Now going one higher with the CX238, the road shoe features a predominantly leather design with dual Boa IP1 dials and a full carbon sole.

Starting with a natural fullgrain water resistant Ecco leather, the shoe features plenty of perforations and mesh inserts to keep things cool. The dual Boa IP1 dials allow for easy adjustment – both tightening and loosening the shoe by turning the dial in either direction.

At the back of the shoe, the heel features hook lycra to help grip your sock and prevent heel slip. Outlast lining is used on the heel and the tongue which claims to help regulate temperature while maintaining a comfortable feel and grip.

If you experience the occasional toe rub, you’ll love the addition of a rubber toe cap to protect the leather from errant tires. There’s also an abrasion resistant heel guard made from Helcor leather out back.

On the bottom, you’ll find an ’80k Force’ full carbon sole with the traditional three bolt pattern and a replaceable heel pad.

Compared to my well loved CX331s, the new CX238 in the same size seem quite a bit wider at least in terms of the carbon shell. Inside, they feel roomy, but not hugely different in terms of width. However, I would say these do fall on the side of being wider than your average shoe even though they’re built on the CX Competition Last.

Weighing in at 289g for a 41.5, the CX238 will be offered in white/black, white/white, black/black, or silver camo and in standard sizes from 36-48, 39.5-46.5 half sizes, plus 50, and in wide EE sizes from 37-48, 39.5-46.5 half sizes and 50.
