Commencal announced a new 2020 version of their Furious DH bike. Using a 6069 alloy frame with improved lifespan and a more dynamic geometry, it has been unanimously approved by their test riders at Vallnord Bike Park in Andorra. 27.5″ wheels and three spec levels round out the package.

Commencal Furious 2020 downhill mountain bike range

The Furious name isn’t new to Commencal, but the 2020 model has been completely revamped. Using 27.5″ wheels and updated geometry, it promises to be stiffer, more dynamic, and more playful than the old version – without losing the simplicity and easy handling.

To help celebrate the launch, Commencal made a new 10-minute short film entitled, “Our Own Way”:

The Furious starts with a new 6069 alloy frame, said to have a longer life expectancy than the older 6061 version. Stiffness has been increased to help improve steering precision, and control on big air landings.

The rocker has two available positions to help tune the ride – Sensitive (more grip), or Dynamic (more responsive). Both curves are reported to be more linear than the previous generation, for better ground contact and comfort through the travel.

Other frame touches include silicon memory foam fork bumpers, a double-density grooved chainstay protector, and a downtube protector plate. The seat tube design has also been revised to allow for greater insertion range of the post into the frame.

All levels of the Furious use SRAM 1x drivetrains, with chain retention provided by e*thirteen.

Four sizes are available, all using 27.5″ wheels (with chainstays shortened to 435mm). Commencal recommends a 40-50mm stem length, which they spec on all of their stock models.

Spec and Pricing

There are three levels to the new Commencal Furious, with complete bike weights TBD.

The Furious Race ($4,799) features a RockShox Boxxer Ultimate fork, RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate DH shock, and SRAM GX / XO1 7-speed drivetrain.

The Furious Essential ($3,899) features a Fox 40 Performance Elite fork, a Fox Float X2 Performance rear shock, and a SRAM GX 7-speed drivetrain.

The Furious Ride ($2,999) features a RockShox Boxxer Select fork, a RockShox Super Deluxe Select rear shock, and a SRAM GX 10-speed drivetrain.

The Furious is available for pre-order now as a 2020 model. Official inventory availability is set to begin in February 2020.
