Planning a Shimano build for the new year? Looks like you’re going to have even more options when it comes to wheels – just as Shimano told us. This week we’ve seen Micro Spline announcements from Chris King, Hope Tech, and now… Stan’s No Tubes!

Stan's No Tubes Micro Spline Neo ultimate hubs shimano XTR XT SLX hubs

According to their Facebook post, Stan’s says that while the hub pictured is still a prototype – it’s the last prototype. The hubs, and more importantly freehubs, have passed all testing and the option is approved for full production. Stan’s also states that the MS freehubs are compatible with existing Neo hubs so retrofitting your current wheels should also be an option.

Stan’s will have Micro Spline freehubs in Durasync Red and Speed Sync Silver in stock around early February. Pricing isn’t specified, but if it follows the pricing breakdown of their currrent freehubs, you’ll be looking around $80 for the Durasync and $130 for the Speedsynce replacement freehub kits.

Has the quality of Stans gone down with this new generation of wheels (That are not that new now)? I had 2 freehubs blow out and had excellent warranty on both. Also, the sealant seems so much more messy and sticky. I had to switch to Orange Seal.

Had no problems with Stan’s sealant, but I’ve seen some failures on their Crest MK3 rims. The previous ones are strong as hell, but the new ones are… questionable.

NEVER had problems with Stan’s sealant. Still the best as far as I am concerned. Nothing but problems with other brands.
