3T co-owner Gerard Vroomen’s personal project road bike is sporting some unique new components, like an as-yet-unreleased new aero Aeroflux road handlebar that may come in both alloy & carbon versions, plus 3T wheels spinning on Chris King hubs. But the 3T Strada Concept 3 isn’t just a prototype, it’s a customizable build you can order now!

That new limited edition 3T Strada Concept 3 complete bike started off simply with custom graphics for a Vroomen project, but evolved into his vision of the ideal fat-tire aero road super bike build. It also happens to give us a sneak peek at a new aero road bike handlebar coming very soon from 3T. Apparently dubbed the Aeroflux, it is said to take all the ergonomic performance of the recent SuperErgo bars and add in aerodynamic shaping. From an angle it looks like the new bike should keep the similar ‘Drop Grip’ shape of the prior bar, with a flat spot behind the hoods transitioning into a tight upper bend & more open lower bend of the drops – kind of a cross between more dramatic ergo bends and classic drops. Gone however is the corner grip of their other ergo carbon bars.

The tops get a wide, flat wing shape for aero performance, and a 31.8mm clamping are designed to fit most stems plus a narrow accessory mount on either side. The new wing-shaped bar does not appear to have any concession to mount aero/TT extensions. The carbon Aeroflux includes internal routing ports, including optional fully-internal routing through the clamping area into the stem (possibly to work with some future bike from 3T, since the current Strada & Exploro route cables into the toptube behind the headset.)

The new dropbar is said to be available in 38, 40 & 42cm widths, and will likely be available at several different price points. 3T is calling the new aero drop bar the Aeroflux, but the first images we have seen of the bar are labelled Superflux LTD. Than may suggest that the alloy Pro-level bar could be called Aeroflux, while the top-end carbon LTD version would be called the Superflux. Who’s to say where a carbon Team edition would fall in between the two.

Aeroflux/Superflux pricing is expected to be similar, but probably slightly higher than that of the SuperErgo: 375€ for LTD, 300€ for Team & just over 100€ if an alloy Pro model is made available. The bar is available now, if you buy the complete Strada Concept 3 bike…

The limited edition 3T Strada Concept 3 starts off with a subtle 3-color red & white paint job over the Team-level carbon 1x-specific Strada frame & 3T Fundi fork, before getting Vroomen’s ideal quick, minimalist build kit. That means a SRAM Red AXS eTap wireless drivetrain with a made-in-Italy by 3T Torno Team carbon crankset & Wolf Tooth 46T chainring, plus 160mm flat mount hydraulic disc brakes.

Wheels are also limited editions, a Discus 45|32 LTD version built with 3T’s standard 45mm deep, 32mm external, 25mm internal hooked tubeless-ready clincher carbon rim laced to red Chris King R45D centerlock disc brake hubs. 3T pairs the wheels with 700x25c Pirelli P-Zero Velo tires (not yet tubeless-ready) that they say measure out to a real 30.3mm width when inflated on the 25mm internal rims. This combination keeps the tire slightly more narrow than the widest external point on the rim for optimal aerodynamics.

Then, that new carbon Aeroflux aero road bar gets wrapped with 3T tape to match a carbon-railed Fizik saddle apparently of the buyer’s choice. You see, each of the limited edition Stradas are made-to-order, so it is possible to make some minor changes if needed – even possible to get more custom with the paint. Starting at $9000 / 9000€, 3T Strada Concept 3 is available now, but will take about 3-4 weeks to ship based on customized, individual builds.

I wish they would have brought back the rotundo instead.
