Fan of steel spokes and more affordable wheelsets? Then Industry Nine has you covered with not one, not two, but six new options for both road, gravel, and trail.

Industry Nine adds S Series & 1/1 carbon MTB wheels + 1/1 aluminum for road or gravel

Hydra S Series Carbon

Not that long ago, Industry Nine unveiled their top level mountain bike wheels with Hydra hubs, their aluminum spokes, and new carbon rims made by We Are One Composites. Not surprisingly though, I9 has been getting a lot of requests for a more affordable carbon wheelset that still features their Hydra hubs with a ridiculous 690 points of engagement, but uses steel spokes instead. So, here it is – the Hydra Enduro S Carbon and Hydra Trail S Carbon.

Built with straight pull hubs and 28 Sapim 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes per wheel, the hubs offer all of the same options as those with their System spokes – which should include Boost, Super Boost, and Shimano Micro Spline options among others.

Due to their price point, these wheels do not get the We Are One Composites rims used on their higher end wheelsets. Presumably, these are manufactured overseas by Reynolds as is the case with the UL250c. You’ll find a 28mm internal width on the Trail rim, and 31mm inner width on the Enduro rim, both with hookless, tubeless ready design.

Available in Trail 29″ and Enduro 27.5″ or Enduro 29″,  claimed weights range from 1615g for the Trail 29″, to 17005-1765g for the Enduros. A set will set you back $1,825 or $805 for the front and $1,025 for the rear.

1/1 Series Carbon

For an even more affordable carbon option, check out the new 1/1 Carbon range. Instead of a straight pull Hydra hub, here you get a J-bend 1/1 hub with 90 points of engagement and standard Sapim spokes.

While the hub and spokes have been stepped down, the carbon rims remain the same with a 28mm internal width for the Trail, and 31mm internal width for the Enduro. Again, both are hookless and tubeless ready.

Offered in the same Trail 29″ and Enduro 27.5″ or 29″ builds, the 1/1 Carbon wheels will sell for $1,575 ($715/$865).

1/1 GRCX & Trail 650b

What’s that? You’re in to gravel now? Well, you’re in luck – I9 also has two new wheelsets for gravel, bikepacking, zesty road riding, whatever you want to call it. The 1/1 GRCX and 1/1 Trail 650b are geared towards drop bar builds but with wide and durable rims to get you home.

The GRCX is 700c only and uses an aluminum rim that measures 24.5mm internally. The Trail is the 650b model with a 27mm internal width. Both are hooked and tubeless compatible.

Since these are meant for dropbar builds, they come with Centerlock hubs only with “high capacity bearings for prolonged bearing life.” Like other 1/1 hubs, these offer 90 points of engagement with 4° between points, and are offered in black only. Axle spacing is 12 x 100 front and 12 x 142mm rear with additional options available. Pricing is set at $750 for either set ($300/$455).

  1. Which came first, i9 hydra or h plus son the hydra? And are they both ok with each other or is someone gonna sue like specialized when they heard someone had a coffee shop in called roubaix. Specialized probably still gets mad when someone mentions a rockhopper penguin.
