Gogoro Eeyo 1 lands in the U.S. with ultra-light 26lb city e-bike without a seat tube

E-bikes are becoming more popular for riding about town, especially if you’re carrying a lot of cargo. But what if you just want something fast and light, without the ability to carry a week’s worth of groceries? Those bikes are getting more popular as well – and they’re also getting a lot lighter.

How light? Well, the new Gogoro Eeyo 1s weighs in at just 26.4lbs. That includes their Eeyo Smartwheel system which uses a 250 watt rear hub motor mated to a 123Wh battery that is stored within the hub. With assisted speed limited to 20mph, this battery should offer up to 40 miles of range on Sport mode or up to 55 miles on Eco mode.

The small size also allows for a full recharge in just 2.5 hours. Even better, the Stand Charger (sold separately) allows you to simply drop the bike into the stand which automatically charges the battery while keeping your bike safely upright.

More than just looks, the lack of a seat tube makes the bike easier to shoulder. Coupled with the low weight of the bike thanks to the kevlarr-reinforced carbon fiber construction, this should make transporting the bike up to your apartment, office, etc. a lot easier.

The Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility allows you to connect your smartphone with the Eeyo app to control the modes. The app includes a built-in smart lock feature which locks the motor when you leave the bike.

Available in July, the Eeyo will be sold in two versions, the Eeyo 1s and Eeyo 1. At $4599, the 1s includes a number of carbon components including frame, fork, seatpost, handlebar, and rims, which get the weight to 26.4lbs. The Eeyo 1 is a bit heavier at 27.5lbs with a carbon frame and fork but aluminum components, but also is priced lower at $3899. Each model includes a Gates CDX belt drive system with a 50 x 20t gearing, a TRP disc brake up front and a Tektro rim brake at the rear mounted under the chainstay, and Maxxis 700c x 28mm tires. Importantly, it seems that the Eeyo will be sold in a single size with a 546mm seat tube, 73° seat tube angle and 72° head tube angle. Other numbers like top tube length and reach are not provided.

A 123Wh battery now takes you 55 miles?! Big claim. Most road ebikes come with batteries 3-4X the size and will only just surpass that distance…

Presumably Eco mode offers a very anemic level of boost to achieve that range.

1) Wow yeah “the lack of a seat tube makes the bike easier to shoulder”
2) IRL my rear tire might be gross and put mud all over my back

One size fits all with a seat post that appears to have no range of adjustment. Anyone who has owned a bike with a brake on the chain stays knows what a nightmare that is. E-bikes appear to be the new investment scam.

So you’ve got a disc brake in the front and a RIM brake in the back? Weird and a pain for maintenance.

All of your braking power comes from underneath the bottom bracket…you didn’t know that? Also as far as seat adjustment that is why they invented a bone saw. Cut your legs to length and if you are too short they have high heels.

Stop being a baby, this bike is Kwa-lih-tee. Anemic hub motors and brakes, tiny batteries and no size adjustment are the future.
