The new Giro Regime road bike shoes share much of the same high-performance tech as Giro’s premium Imperial road shoes, yet come in at about half the price. You get dual Boa dial retention, a stiff carbon composite sole, and the same lightweight synthetic Synchwire fabric for the upper – albeit with simplified ventilation. And while a pair of these shoes will cost you about 100g extra, your wallet will appreciate saving $200.
Giro Regime high performance road shoes at a mid-level price
Giro is touting the new Regime shoes as the best of both worlds: high on performance and value. At $225 / 230€ the Regimes aren’t quite a budget road shoe, but offer much of the same tech you get in more expensive shoes. Plus, the Regime is offered in both men and women-specific lasts for more fit options.
Regime – Tech details
The Regime uses the same premium, lightweight Synchwire synthetic upper construction as their $425 Imperial. That’s not simply the outer layer of the shoe that you see, but the multiple heat-bonded layers of monofilament mesh against the foot, a mid-layer structural sheet to distribute forces from the Boa dials, and the top protective film. The idea is to minimize seams (and stitching) while maintaining a shaped & supportive fit. Here, the Regime uses smaller laser perforations for ventilation vs. the large exposed mesh openings of the Imperial.
Fit is again handled by two Boa dials, but the Regimes downgrade to the more simplified L6 dials which still offer 1mm micro tightening adjustment, but not micro release.
The sole is also a slight downgrade in material, using an injected carbon-reinforced composite material that adds a few grams and likely sacrifices a tiny bit of stiffness. Giro is vague on the stiffness comparison from one of their shoes to the next, but the Regimes are said to “provide a powerful connection to the pedals” with the new carbon composite outsole, which include non-replaceable “dual-injected TPU walking pads” at the heel and toe and 5mm of front to back cleat adjustment.
Giro Regime & Regime W road shoes – Options & availability
Total weight of the new Regimes is 265g per shoe (size 42). They are available in the men’s fit in black, white & copper (gray with orange details), each with reflective heel tabs & logos, and in whole sizes from 39-50 & half sizes from 42.5-45.5. The women’s Regime W version comes in just black or white, and whole sizes from 36-43 & half sizes from 37.5-42.5.
Both include 3D-molded Aegis insoles with arch support, and are available now from Giro directly and regular Giro retailers.
