Taj Mihelich is a man of many talents. Rising to fame as a World Champion BMX pro, Taj has managed to successfully transfer that into a career of bike design and graphic illustration and writing. His most recent project is a book titled, ‘Back Before they Invented Openface Helmets.’
A collection of “cartoons and doodles,” the book has plenty of bike related content with some current events thrown in for good measure. Acccording to the cover, “This book is 164 pages of my cartoons and doodles. There is a bunch of bicycle comics (including a number from Sunday Comics with Taj series on Pinkbike), lots of low-brow humor, dad jokes, questionable puns, and some things that are probably only funny to me. There’s a few things I’m actually serious about, but hopefully you can’t tell, and even a few essays. I call it a collection of not-too-artsy-fartsy work I’ve done over the last few years (though, there are a few fart jokes).”

Taj mentions that he is working on a new children’s book for 2021, but for now you can pick up Bernie the Bike Builder while it’s on sale for $22.50 in hardcover.
