Liv’s new gravel bike is far more than just a gravel bike. The 2021 Liv Devote Advanced is worthy of other names too; adventure bike or bikepacking bike, for example. That’s thanks to its hugely increased capacity for carrying kit. At a glance, this looks to be a very well thought out women’s gravel bike – and, there are three price points to suit a good range of budgets. Let’s check it out.
2021 Liv Devote Advanced Gravel Bike for Women
The 2021 Liv Devote Advanced is available in sizes XS-L at three price points, all of which give you an advanced-grade carbon composite frame and fork, tuned specifically for women. As with all Liv bikes the new Devote gravel bike is engineered with their 3F design philosophy (Form, Fit, Function), resulting in a geometry based on female biomechanics.
That geometry is a 75° (74.5° in M & L) seat tube angle, a 70.5° head tube angle (71° in M & L), with seat tube lengths from 390mm up to 500mm. Reach spans a 372mm to 380mm range. Chainstays measure up at 430mm, consistent across the size range.
Those chainstays (and seatstays) are built wide enough to accommodate 45c tires so you can really bulk out your rubber for rougher off-road adventures.
The frame offers no fewer than three locations to mount water bottles – one on the seat tube, one on the top of the downtube and another on its underside.
You’ll spot three other sets of bosses. Mounts for a top tube pack, and racks or fenders on the fork give this women’s gravel bike an uncommon versatility. Parent company Giant don’t yet offer the men’s equivalent Revolt gravel bike with the same carrying capacity.
Other noteworthy features of the 2021 Liv Devote Advanced are the vibration damping D-Fuse seat-post, flat mount hydraulic disc brakes and reflective decals on the seat stays and seat tube.
All 2021 Liv Devote models are compatible with a dropper seat-post. The Devote Advanced 1 is spec’d with the Giant Contact Switch Dropper.
We like that Liv has put some thought into the spec list. There is the usual female-specific contact points such as the Liv Approach saddle. They also put an anti-slip, shockproof tape on the bars to help filter out vibrations. They’ve paid attention to sizing too; crank length, bar width and stem length are all spec’d with attention to detail.
Pricing & Availability
The 2021 Liv Devote Advanced is offered in three models. At the top-end is the Advanced Pro, priced at $5,700. Hand it over for the carbon frame and fork with SRAM Force eTap AXS electronic shifting on a 12 speed 10-36T cassette and 30/43T chainrings. You’ll also get Giant’s CXR-2 Carbon Wheels prepped tubeless and SRAM Force eTap AXS hydraulic disc brakes.
Middle of the road is the Liv Devote Advanced 1 model. For $3,100 you get a Shimano GRX derailleur with 11-42T cassette and 40T crankset. It rolls on Giant’s P-X2 Disc wheelset and is fitted with GRX level brakes.
At the budget end of the spectrum is the Liv Devote Advanced 2. Still featuring the advanced-grade carbon composite frame and fork, the entry-level build offers a GRX group with Shimano 105 11-34T cassette and 32-48T crankset. It gets the Giant P-X2 Disc wheelset, GRX level brakes and Giant CrossCut AT1 40c tires.
