New Scope Sport wheels chop almost a third off the price of their already affordable carbon Race wheel offerings, bringing handbuilt tubeless carbon road wheels under 1000€ for either rim or disc brakes. Moving beyond their recently updated, wider Race wheels with updated aerodynamics and new hub tech, these new Sport wheels repurpose Scope’s original proven 30, 45 & 55mm deep tubeless carbon rims to lower the cost of entry to upgrading your road bike’s wheels…

After recently filling out their reasonably priced carbon Race Road & Off-Road wheels earlier this spring with a slightly wider aero-optimized Road range and all-new even wider gravel-ready aero All-Road wheel range, Scope has rebuilt a complete family of wheels with their original road rims.

Tech details – Road tubeless for rim or disc brakes

Both Scope Sport rim brake and disc brake wheels are available sharing the same original blunt U-shaped, CFD-designed aero profiles with local carbon reinforcement at the spoke holes. Maxing out at 26mm wide, both variants of the carbon rims feature a hooked tubeless-ready bead with a 19mm internal width, and low-key black-on-carbon graphics.

Both versions feature new alloy hubsets with 3-pawl engagement, SKF sealed bearings, and are built up with Sapim’s entry aero CX-Leader bladed spokes with external nipples. The hubs are available with Shimano HG, MicroSpline, Campagnolo N3W, or SRAM XD-R bodies, and QR or 12mm thru-axles.

And that’s certainly not a bad thing, those R4D wheels proved to be versatile over the road & fast gravel, feeling as fast and stable in windy conditions as wheels costing at least twice as much.

Sapim CX-Leader spokes? That must be a new model? I hope so as I’ve enjoyed building with and riding the CX-Ray and CX-Sprint spokes (the Secure-lock nipples are great, too).

Great question. We just asked Scope to be sure on the spoke spec, and their response is that it’s an OEM-only bladed Leader spoke, hence the ‘CX’ addition to the name. Scope also mentioned that they keep them in stock for spare parts.
