Punk Powder, a Greener Bike Cleaner
Muc-Off recently launched its Project Green initiative, a commitment by the company to save 200 tonnes of plastic by 2023. Punk Powder is a product born of that commitment in several ways:
- It’s formulated using a cruelty-free, proprietary blend of biodegradable ingredients, 75% of which are plant-based.
- It uses 100% recyclable cardboard packaging that’s made of 50% renewable materials and labeled with veggie-based inks.
- By shipping it in powder form, Muc-Off reduces its carbon footprint substantially — downsizing packaging for each unit by an estimated 92%.
- The light packaging means Punk Powder is lighter and easier to ship, offsetting the brand’s CO2 footprint significantly, and saving an estimated 61 tonnes of plastic per year.
In the words of Muc-Off CEO Alex Trimnell, “Punk Powder embodies everything Muc-Off stands for, a marriage of high performance and sustainability. It had to be just as good as our other bike cleaners, but in a more environmentally focused and convenient format. The team have done an epic job producing something truly game-changing and totally plastic-free.”

The hot-pink Punk Powder comes in two compostable 30-gram sachets of powder. A single sachet, when mixed with one liter of clean water, yields a full liter of bike cleaner. The brand suggests that riders “take their eco-warrior status to the next level, by using rainwater to refill their bottles.”
To kick it up even further, Muc-Off offers a starter kit that, along with Punk Powder, includes a hardwearing “Bottle For Life” aluminum spray bottle. Each Bottle For Life comes with a non-toxic silicone base for added durability and even more longevity.
