Following the April release of the top-of-the-range 2022 Canyon Spectral:ON CFR and CFR LTD, the brand has made available three new, more affordable options rocking the slightly heavier CF carbon frame with a slightly lower stiffness:weight ratio. Despite that, it has the same geometry and kinematic, with a 150mm fork paired with 155mm rear wheel travel, and still meets Canyon’s Category 4E strength and impact resistance testing standards.
For its US customers, Canyon is offering two of those; the CF 7 and CF 8. The former retails at $5,999 USD, featuring the smaller, 720Wh battery, with the 900Wh battery as a limited-availability upgrade. Meanwhile, the CF 8 priced at $6,999 USD will come with the 900Wh battery as standard, save for the small frame that has capacity only for the 720Wh battery, and is $350 USD cheaper, therefore. Details and specs herein.
2022 Canyon Spectral:ON CF Models
The Spectral:ON CFR released in April has a claimed frame weight of 2.88 kg in size medium. The alternate carbon layup seen on the slightly more affordable CF models delivers a claimed frame weight of 3.18 kg. When you put that into the context of a 22.75 kg eMTB (CFR), and a potential overall system weight of around 100 kg, the 300g difference in frame weight pales into insignificance. It’s the componentry offering between the CFR and CF models where the biggest bag-for-buck differences can be found.
There are three Spectral:ON CF models launching today; the higher end CF 9 is limited to European markets, however, retailing at €6,999 with the 720Wh battery and €7,299 for the 900Wh counterpart. That one boasts upper-end componentry including a Fox 36 Performance Elite fork, a Float X Performance Shock and a SRAM XX1 AXS 12 speed electronic-shifting drivetrain. Claimed weight for a medium (with the 900Wh battery) is 23.85 kg.
The “entry-level” CF 7 (if you can call it that) is priced at $5,999 USD with the 720Wh battery. It sports a RockShox Lyrik Select Fork, Super Deluxe Select shock and Shimano XT 12 speed drivetrain. Claimed weight for the medium is 23.04 kg.
The CF 8 will set you back $6,999 USD with a 900Wh battery. That cash fetches you a Fox 36 Rythm fork with GRIP damper, DPS Performance Shock and Shimano XT 12 speed drivetrain. Claimed weight in medium is 23.95 kg.
