The 2022 Kona Shonky Dirt Jump and Pump Track Bike remains largely unchanged for this model year. The geometry and parts specification are exactly the same… the only thing that has changed is the color. So what?
OK, OK, bear with… Kona have however, provided us with a rather lovely video of their gravity team rider Carlos Langelaan putting the Shonky through its paces. It is beautifully shot by Hector Saura of Bicycle Nightmares, allowing us to appreciate the full extent of Carlos’ dirt jump prowess.
2022 Kona Shonky DJ Bike
The Kona Shonky steel dirt jump bike gets a fresh paint job for 2022. And, nothing more. If last year’s Gloss Champagne frame paint was the only thing stopping you from emptying your pockets, perhaps this year’s pastel coral green will be enough to tip you over the edge… maybe.
Regardless of the paint job, there’s no denying this is a beautiful steel frame dirt jump bike. The chromoly butted frame features head tube gussets, a machined yoke and modular dropouts, giving it a little more class than your average aluminium frame DJ bike.
This 26″ bike runs a 100mm travel Manitou Circus Expert dirt jump fork (42mm offset), which extends from a 120mm head tube at a 69° head tube angle. The Shonky is still available in small and large frame sizes. The former has a 415mm reach while the latter has a 428mm reach.
Other components include a Samox Dirt Jumper Crankset with 28T chainring, set up as a single speed with a 14T Joytech rear cog, a Kona XC/BC 35 handlebar and Kona Key Grips. The Shonky rolls on Maxxis DTH EXO 2.3″ tires seated on WTB ST i30 rims laced to a set of Formula hubs.
