To go along with their updated winter riding boots, 45NRTH also has news today on the tire front. Most notably, they have a new studded tire called the Wrathlorde that is designed to be as aggressive as the name implies. The popular Vanhelga also gets some improvements including a new look for certain models.
Calling it an evolution of the Wrathchild, the Wrathlorde is designed to be their most aggressive tire for icy conditions. The tire has more closely spaced tread than the Wrathchild for better rolling resistance. But traction has been improved with 300 XL concave studs per tire to rip into any ice in your path.
The tread blocks are still deep to dig into loose snow and wet conditions, but siping has been added for better conforming lugs as well.
The tire is build on a 120 TPI casing in 26 x 4.2″ size, and will sell for $250 per tire.
Vanhelga
For those who don’t need quite such an aggressive tire, the Vanhelga looks to be a better option than ever. Still designed for riding in loose snow, the tire has an updated tread pattern for better grip and rolling.
More ramping on the center knobs should help to make the tires roll better and more spacing at the transition and shoulder knobs should increase grip. The tires also use a dual rubber compound with 60a in the center and 52a at the sides for improved durability.
In addition to the new tread design, the tires now have the option of a 60 TPI tan wall. Black tires will use a 120 TPI ultralight casing, both are folding and tubeless ready. Offered in 26 x 4.2″ or 27.5 x 4.0″ sizes, Vanhelga tires will sell for $90-120 depending on the size and model.
