For 2013, Italy’s second-oldest cycling company has reworked its bestselling Ego model with an eye toward improved comfort, performance, and value. At 1,100g (medium, painted), Olympia feel that the Ego RS’ frame is worthy from anything of everything from the 2,250€ SRAM Apex build right on up through Campagnolo Super Record. While we haven’t thrown a leg over one, reviews elsewhere have been extremely positive. Pass the break for the full release…
A model of great features and that promises even more. An excellent quality/price ratio for a frame that, although being part of the Olympia mid-range, offers the performances and finishing of a Specialissima.
For 2013, EGO, a road frame with geometries oriented to competition, will undergo a total restyling (RS). The new design totally revolutionises the shapes, but maintaining the same concept that made this model one of Olympia’s best sellers in time: maximum performance, minimum expense.
The precious details on EGO RS are countless: for instance, all cableways are inside the frame, the 1.5” headset is tapered and rests on a monocoque fork of carbon fibre; the bottom bracket is of the PressFit TM type and the arrangement for the Shimano Di2 electronic gear makes it a model of absolute value, considering its mid-range position.
The frame is made of T700 carbon fibre, with a monocoque structure obtained with the e-mold technique. This technology, which uses two different moulds (one internal and one external) for the execution of the monocoque structure, ensures the best consistency of the composite fabrics and the great lightness of the finished frame. Indeed, the painted M size of the EGO RS model weighs only 1,100 grams!
EGO RS will be available in the sizes XS-S-M-L-XL-XXL.
