Canyon’s new Grizl 2.0 wants to bring back the all-terrain bike concept. Not limited to just gravel roads, or even really the name gravel, this is meant to be an adaptable bike platform that can be tweaked to however you see adventure riding. Slap a conventional drop bar and rigid carbon fork on it, and you have an all-rounder gravel bike. But you could also opt for a short travel suspension for more off-road bump-eating capabilities? Or the new Full Mounty drop bar for more hand & mounting positions as a more bikepacking setup? Or even the sleek Eclips(e) setup with smart integrated dynamo, lighting & powerbank to keep you powered up for even much longer-distance adventures!
2025 Canyon Grail carbon ATB & gravel bike
Canyon added the Grizl as the more adventurous gravel bike to their Grail gravel race bike back in 2021. And they have since seen it modified by individual riders into everything from a bikepacking race bike, to a do-it-all mixed-surface commuter, to just an all-rounder gravel bike for those cyclists prioritizing comfort and big tire off-road capability. Now, with the Grail getting a faster race-focused overhaul last year, it was time to update the Grizl, as well.
And now Canyon embraces the versatility of the Grizl platform, giving the bike lots of factory options. Rigid bikepacking carbon or short travel gravel suspension forks. More traditional drop bars or a new modular Full Mounty bar with integrated aerobar, bag & accessory attachments. An optional dynamo lighting and device-changing powerbank setup, fully integrated into the bike. Plus, mechanical or electronic drivetrain options, and even accessories like bikepacking bags, racks, and full cover fenders.
They call it “One Bike. All Adventures.”
So what’s actually new?
Let’s start with bigger tire clearance thanks to new asymmetric elevated chainstays, now up to 700 x 54mm or 29 x 2.1” officially (which really means the latest 55mm tires should fit on most wheels too). There’s also tweaked off-road capable geometry. And it also gets more storage too, now with an internal frame glovebox, and all of the bolt-on mounts for cages, racks & fenders. Plus, even more room inside the frame itself to fit frame bags thanks to taller headtubes, slightly flatter toptubes, and a little dropped kink at the seatpost that makes room for a conventional external seatpost clamp without overly sloping the toptube.
Full Mounty cockpit
A big part of the versatility in the new Grizl lies in its modular Full Mounty handlebar system. It is another wild new gravel cockpit from the Canyon designers, but keeps the same standard Grail gravel ergonomics & fit for your hands on the hood & drops. Hunting bikepacking marginal gains though, Canyon developed this new dropbar cockpit with an integrated loop top, that provides extra hand (and forearm) positions, somewhere to securely strap or bolt-on bags, and mounts to attach bigger accessories like full aerobar risers & extensions.
Canyon even offers their own flip-top bag that nestles inside the loop, with an integrated GPS mount on top.
Plus, it keeps standard round profiles to easily mount things like lights, computers & other accessories.
ECLIPS power & lighting pre-installed
Another exciting option with the new Canyon Grizl is an all new integrated dynamo power and lighting system. It is called Eclips – or Endless Charge & Lighting Integrated Power System – and its real selling point is the neat and tidy integration.
The Grizl starts with a SON 29 S dynamo hub built into the front wheel, which sends power to a smart Bluetooth-connected Canyon BMS black box hidden inside the downtube storage. There, it charges a standard Lupine SmartCore battery which then provides continuous and backup power for when you aren’t rolling to the integrated lights. Those wired-in Lupine lights include a 1000lm Nano SL headlight and 45lm C14 taillight, but also a USB-C port at your stem to keep your phone or GPS charged too. Importantly, Canyon developed slick integrated dynamo contacts into the fork tips so you don’t have to think for trouble-free wheel changes.
Combining proven SON power generations and standard Lupine lighting, Canyon says the system is completely self-sufficient in its eco mode providing energy for full lighting from just 15km/hr. And divert 12% of its output over 20km/hr to charge the battery. Then, Eclisp can add extra light while descending faster or keep lighting for hours after you stop thanks to the backup battery. And you can even keep track your power and manage consumption levels via the connected Canyon smartphone app.

The new carbon Grizl comes in 8 different complete bike specs that Canyon essentially divides into two basic families: OG for a classic dropbar setup, and Escape for those with the new modular Full Mounty handlebar. Then, there are a couple key tech names to explain what standout spec is on each model: Rift means it gets a DT suspension fork, Eclips means integrated lighting & power, and AXS or Di2 are rather obviously their respective electronic drivetrains.
Plus, there are two mostly-subdued colors to pick from for each build from the likes of: Pineapple Gummy, Lavender Gelato, Birch Wafer & Forest Fizz.
Original Gangster gravel bikes
Pricing starts at $2800 / 2400€ of the Canyon Grizl CF 6 in its most basic OG configuration with SRAM Apex 1×12 mechanical and alloy DT wheels. Next up, another OG is the 2700€ Grizl CF 7 with an upgrade to GRX 1×12 mechanical.
At 3500€ in the OG family, you’ll find the Grizl CF 8 Rift that adds in the 40mm DT Swiss F 132 One suspension fork and a big drivetrain upgrade to the latest 1×13-speed SRAM Rival Xplr AXS, still with alloy DT wheels. Then at 5000€, the CF 8 Di2 goes back to the rigid carbon fork, but steps up to new GRX wireless Di2 1×12 and gets some all-new Canyon GR30 CF 30mm deep carbon wheels.
Lastly, with the Original Gangsta gravel dropbar is the 8000€ Canyon Grizl CF 9 AXS Eclips, which features a top-tier SRAM Red RED Xplr AXS 1×13 wireless drivetrain, the fully-integrated Eclips dynamo lighting and power supply setup, and a set of light carbon DT Swiss GRC 1400 30mm deep gravel wheels.
Fully Mounty Escape gravel bikes
Then, the first is the Full Mounty bar family is the Grizl CF 7 Escape at $3400 / 3000€ with a wide range GRX 1×12 mechanical build and alloy DT gravel wheels.
The $4700 / 4300€ Canyon Grizl CF 8 Ecilps Escape also gets the modular cockpit setup, here kitted out with the integrated dynamo lighting & power system, a Shimano GRX 1×12 mechanical mullet drivetrain, and alloy DT GR1600 wheels.
Then lastly, the Grizl CF 9 Rift Escape combines the modular bar with a DT suspension fork, a matching mullet SRAM AXS Force controls with an XO Eagle Transmission drivetrain setup, and 30mm deep carbon Canyon GR30 CF gravel wheels for 7000€.
Generally, the new bikes are available now worldwide, although just those three models with $ pricing will make it to the USA for now.
