We know, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. But there are some questions you might not want to ask your local shop or riding buddies. We had some great questions regarding tubeless tires, sealant, and other things tubeless for the last AASQ installment. As usually happens though, the answers raised more questions and we got a follow up question from David regarding the mixing of sealants.
Specifically, David was curious about the mixing of Stan’s and WTB tire sealants asking, “Regarding the, what’s leaking from my tire article…it was mentioned not to mix sealant products. I recently mixed WTB by Stan’s with the Stan’s branded product. Is there any difference between the two products and will this cause any issues?”
So we went back to Stan’s for the answer. According to Stan’s Creative Director, Chris Currie, “We haven’t made sealant for WTB since ’13, so we can’t be sure what they have in there these days. Might be safe to treat that as a totally different product, unless you have an old WTB formula that was still made by us.”
But if it’s an old bottle that still says WTB by Stan’s No Tubes? In that case, you should be OK – but Chris mentions that it would still be worth peeking into to the tire in a few weeks just to be on the safe side. If the sealant is still liquid and sloshing around in the tire, you should be fine.
