AERON/TPU is the latest to step deeper into the high-performance, ultra-light inner tube game. Founded by RTI Sports Group, the folks behind Ergon saddles and grips, AERON wants to instill longevity and durability into the hyper-lightweight tube world and swap out less user-friendly (but light) plastic valves for alloy ones.

RoadSuperLite_Aluminium_Valve_CloseUp

Their SuperLight Race series, which debuted at the UK CORE bike show, is aimed at weight-conscious riders looking for low rolling resistance, compact pack size, and top-tier puncture protection.

Aluminum Presta Valves For the Win

The SuperLight Race tubes come with aluminum Presta valves, delivering a lighter, stronger, and more adaptable setup for racers and performance riders.

Here’s what makes them stand out:

  • Removable valve core for easy sealant injection
  • Better compatibility with valve extenders
  • More resistant to extreme temperatures
  • A machined valve stem ensures a secure pump head connection
  • Built for durability (compared to plastic valves)

Weight Weenies – Prep Your Wallet

The SuperLight Race lineup is impressively light, with models for road, MTB, and CX/gravel:

  • Road SuperLite Race (23-28mm, Presta 42mm): 21g
  • MTB SuperLite Race (1.7″-2.5″, Presta 42mm): 40g
  • CX/Gravel SuperLite Race (32-52mm, Presta 42mm): 30g
  • Price: 24,95 €, £22.99, $29.95 per tube.

What are tubes?

Don’t be parochial.

I wouldn’t even think of using tubes in some contexts, but they would be my first choice in other. Tubeless has drawbacks, just as tubes do.

You must be new to the scene. See, “inner tubes” are things folks who use clincher tires put inside their tires to retain air. People with tubeless might carry them as a backup in case of a flat that sealant doesn’t fix. People touring or bikepacking might take them as a quick fix for flats if running tubeless. And I’m willing to bet the majority of bicycles in the world have inner tubes in their tires.

There’s prolly a YouTube video or two that can help you learn what inner tubes are and how to use them.

I only ride 32-35mm length valves. Don’t like such a long valve sticking out of my rim. What’s the use of making a light valve then making it so long? At least offer a 32mm valve.

@allison Why don’t you like a long valve sticking out of your rim? Can be easier to pump up.

you are a minority in this spectrum, people putting high end light TPU for raod will NOT use 32. Simple as that, as a spare, even more simple on group rides.

I dont prefer a valve longer than what I need.

Sure, announce this NOW after I bought new emergency tubes that I have to either worry about melting with my USB pump or buy a new pump.

’Removable valve core’ – you know that’s not really groundbreaking right?

on TPU tubes that was not the norm when they were introduced and they relatively recently started offering them

Yes, they were. Revoloop and Tubolito, which pretty much pioneered these years ago, had removable cores – and plastic stems which cracked when you looked at them funny.

a quick check of the table on the official website clarifies that there are not many numbers correct in the info in the bikerumor article. please at least get the facts correct, for example for the road superlite race, actual is as follows: Road – SuperLite Race / 23-28 / SV42 22g, and there are many more sizes too.

There was an error in the press release where 25mm should have read 28mm. Note that many of the sizes listed on the website are not the new SuperLite Race tubes with aluminum valves. For the SuperLite Race Road tubes, there are two widths – 23-28mm and 28-32mm, with each in 42, 65, and 80mm valves.

Is injecting sealant into tubes a thing? Would normal sealant even seal a puncture in TPU? It’s a famously hard to glue material

Sealant injection? On all the TPU tubes I’ve seen, it says that they are not compatible with sealant. I don’t think it will hurt them, but it won’t seal.

Ride now has AL valves with removable cores for $8 to $12 per the last time I bought some. They hold air so much better than the standard TPU tube. They also range in size as far as stem length and tire size. Had some in 65mm from my 44mm wheels work great.

And the regular polymer valve stem versions are/were around $5.50 per tube when I bought six pack.

here’s my idea to make aluminium valve stem even lighter: drillium valve stem.

Do they do them in purple?

Ride now tpu has metal valves for awhile now. Well over 1k miles on a set with zero issues and a fraction of the price. I’m willing to bet these big brands use the same factories to make their tpu tubes but charge a premium.
